The target audience for the Preposition Exercises is beginning level ESL students, scoring between 180 and 210 on the CASAS Tests. The exercises help students learn skills tested on an A Level CASAS Test. These can also be used for review by higher level students. Preposition Exercises were created to teach and reinforce the following: Unit 1 -- In and on - used to describe location Unit 2 -- Under and next to - used to describe location Unit 3 -- On the right, on the left and in the middle - used to describe location Unit 4 -- Review of prepositions used to describe location Unit 5 -- At and on - used to describe time Unit 6 -- At and from/to - used to describe time Unit 7 -- In and on - used to describe time Unit 8 -- Review of prepositions used to describe time There are 8 units and each has a 1 to 2 minute Flash introduction describing the vocabulary point. The information is both written and spoken so it is simple and easy for lower level ESL students to follow. After students have heard and seen the introductory presentation, they are directed to a number of drill and practice quizzes which allow them to become comfortable working with the new vocabulary. Each unit has three types of exercises to review the material presented in the introduction. The exercises become increasingly challenging from Exercise 1 to Exercise 3. They move at the students pace and allow them to backtrack, and even pause and copy questions and answers from the screen. This allows students time to learn the information as they work their way through the exercises. Some students need assistance learning where to "click to go the next question" and "try again". They may also needed some instruction on how to click the button to get the audio file to replay when desired. Once students have mastered these simple skills they will be able to continue independently. Return to the Quiz Home Page |
