This 30 page 8 1/2" X 11" booklet explains what you need
to know to access health care in the U.S. including when to call 911,
when to call the doctor, how to make appointments and what questions
to ask when you see a health care provider. It's available in 2 versions
with 4 different languages. One with Bosnian & Russian the other
with Spanish and Nuer.
- Family Planning
This 20 page 8 1/2" X 11" booklet provides a basic explanation
of different kinds of contraceptives and methods of family planning.
It's available in 1 version with 4 different languages: Bosnian, Nuer,
Russian and Spanish.
- Feeding Baby
This 24 page 8 1/2" X 11" booklet shows what to feed babies
with a positive emphasis on breast feeding, when to introduce solid
food, what foods can be dangerous for babies and how to avoid feeding
problems. It's available in 3 versions with 9 different languages: Version
one with Nuer, Spanish and Russian, Version 2 with Laotian, Vietnamese
and Hmong, and Version 3 with Bosnian, Arabic and Somali.
- Growth and Development
This 38 page 8 1/2" X 11" booklet shows what to expect from
babies as they grow from birthto age 5. It features pictures of babies
and parents and also describes activities that parents can do to help
children learn and grow. It is available in three versions with translations
in 9 different languages: Version 1 with Bosnian, Russian and Spanish,
Version 2 with Somali, Arabic and Nuer, and Version 3 with Laotian,
Hmong and Vietnamese.
- Safety for Babies and Children
This 26 page 8 1/2" X 11" booklet shows what is safe and what
is not for babies and children and features pictures of babies and moms.
It is available with translations in 9 different languages: Version
1 is in Nuer, Version 2 is in Russian and Spanish, Version 3 is in Bosnian,
Arabic and Somali, and Version 4 is in Laotian, Vietnamese, and Hmong.
- Taking Oral Medication
This 20 page 8 1/2" X 11" booklet explains what you need to
know about taking medication, what questions to ask the doctor about
your prescription and what special warnings on prescriptions mean. It's
available in 2 versions with 4 different languages: Version 1 is Russian
and Bosnian, and Version 2 is Spanish and Nuer.
These multi-lingual booklets were developed to provide
information to newcomers in Minnesota. Multi-Cultural Educational Services
created these materials in collaboration with Anoka County Community Health
and Environmental Services. They were originally funded by Allina Health
Systems, UCare Minnesota and Minnesota Department of Children Families
and Learning. They have been successfully and ent10husiastically used
by Public Health Educators in Minnesota.
