Story by Story Phonics Lessons
These stories are part of a contextual phonics program created by Marn Frank M.Ed. with the support of LDA of Minnesota adapted for the web by Charles LaRue with the support of the Minnesota Literacy Council.
These
interactive listening exercises provide practice with simple prepositions
"in", "on", "at" and others, used with location and with time. Multimedia
presentations show how these prepositions are used and practice exercises
allow students to become proficient using this vocabulary.
These
interactive exercises explain what happens to the garbage that we
throw away. They give examples of how to reduce, reuse and recycle.
They also explain household hazardous waste and how to read product
labels and how to dispose of waste properly. The explanations are
in English, Hmong, Arabic and Somali, and can be heard online or printed
from pdf files. The exercises are all in English and can be used on
line or printed out from pdf files.
These
interactive health literacy exercises provide practice in 3 areas:
Understanding food and reading a nutrition label, understanding basic
information about diabetes and basic information about high blood
pressure. They have introductions spoken and printable in English,
Arabic, Hmong, Somali and Spanish.
These

skill areas: reading a prescription medicine label, reading an over-the-counter
OTC medicine label, reading special warning labels and information
about side effects. They also have introductions spoken and printable
in English, Arabic, Hmong,Somali and Spanish.
These
interactive literacy exercises provide practice in 4 different skill
areas: writing a check, filling out a timesheet, filling out a basic
form and reading a simple map.
